MONITORING AND COMPLIANCE

Monitoring and Accountability are crucial aspects of charter public schools, as they are granted autonomy in exchange for being individually responsible for their academic performance.

  • Failure to meet the terms of the charter contract can result in school closure.
  • To ensure accountability, there are standards, policies, and practices in place.
  • The Missouri Charter Public School Commission follows the National Association of Charter School Authorizer's Principles and Standards for sponsorship.
  • The commission conducts oversight, evaluates performance, and monitors compliance.
  • They have various policies in areas such as operations, enrollment, oversight, and renewal.
  • The commission also has practices in place, including an operating plan, site visit protocols, and annual reports for each school. Schools receive annual reports on their performance in academics, finance, operations, learning environment, and governance.
  • The commission also assists schools in renewal processes and expects them to provide information on expected outcomes, strategies for achieving them, dissemination of best practices, and addressing gaps.
  • Renewal documents are reviewed to assess the plan's effectiveness, alignment with student population needs, rigor and realism of outcomes, addressing of identified gaps, and continuation of successes and best practices.
